Tar & Chip Surfacing.
The installation of Tar & Chip or chip and seal, is achieved by applying a layer of hot liquid asphalt (tar) onto a pre-prepared surface and then immediately covered with a layer of aggregate chips, the latter adhering to the sticky tar. This creates a surface that is durable and its rough texture which is also skid resistant.It is used in the construction of roads, car parks and driveways.
This technique is favoured for being cost effective and a more affordable option when compared to other techniques, it also requires minimal maintenance. It also has further advantages in that the surface offers excellent traction, prevents water accumulation, and is able to deal with heavy traffic.
